My conclusion based on the data:

75% of the students said that they or a member of their family have never or only once attended a art or music show.

My school district has had a full time elementary music teacher giving students music once a week for 3years including this 2009-2010 school year. The 5th graders that took the survey have only had music since the 3rd grade. Therefore when asked the question "do you desire to study art or music in college?" 64% of students responded "probably not or maybe".

75% state that they like music class or generally like music class.

83% of students said they knew nothing, very little, or some about careers in the arts, after the project it went up to only 81%. My thoughts on this small percentage is that the 83% students did not think they knew anything about jobs in music... after the project they realized there is so much to learn and a bigger world in terms of jobs that the children refelcted that the still indeed knew very little. Additionally, many students had remarks that our spring production is more work for their music teacher (me Mrs. Zenobi) than they ever could have imagined.

My other thoughts from my data are as follows:

The students that were assessed on the project were on a day that was missed due to illnesses, funerals, and induction. Thusly the exposure this year and since kindergarten has most likely affected the students experience.

My wonderings are for the future: What would the results of the same test be from students that are currently in 1st grade, who have had music class, musical expereinces, performed in school shows?
